Current NSW Government Rebates

• Rainwater tank rebate - up to $1500 for rainwater tanks connected to toilets and washing machines
• Hot water system rebate - $300 to switch from electric to solar, heat pump or gas hot water systems
• Hot water circulator rebate - $150 for buying a hot water circulator
• Washing machine rebate - $150 for buying a 5 star or higher WELS rated washing machine
• Dual flush toilet rebate - $200 for buying a 4 star dual flush toilet suite

 

Rainwater tanks

A rebate of up to $1,500 is available to Sydney Water customers who install a rainwater tank before 30 June 2011. Rainwater tanks installed as a condition of BASIX certification are not eligible for a rebate.

 

Toilet Leaks & Rebates

 

How can I tell if my toilet's leaking?

An easy way to check if your toilet is slowly leaking is to add a few drops of food colouring to your toilet cistern. Don't flush the toilet for at least one hour. If colouring shows up in the toilet bowl after an hour, you've got a leak.

On average, a single flush toilet uses around 12 litres of water per flush. A 4-star water efficient dual flush toilet uses less than half this amount. Switching to a 4-star dual flush toilet will save about 25,000 litres of water a year.  There are currently NSW Government rebates of $200 for a 4 star dual flush toilet suite.

 

Tap aerators
Aerators restrict the flow of water from your tap without reducing water pressure. Fit an aerator to your taps and reduce the amount of water you use by more than 50%.

Flow control valves or restrictors can reduce the volume of water through a tap to between three and 15 litres per minute.

A tap left running wastes more than 10 litres of water a minute.

A dripping tap can waste more than 2,000 litres a month. That's 24,000 litres a year - more than an average household uses in one month.

Water efficient taps use 50 per cent less water than standard taps.
